Effective April 1, 2003, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador banned lubricating oil from waste disposal sites.

Oil that is poured down the drain, openly burned, or disposed of with household garbage, can  contaminate land and water, and create air pollution. The Oil Recycling Program ensures proper disposal of used oil, as well as recycling and reuse of the product. Once collected, lubricating oil can be recycled and reprocessed for use again as a lubricant or fuel.

In Newfoundland and Labrador you can return used lubricating, crankcase, and gear oil, and  transmission fluid. Consumers can bring their used lubricating oil to an oil retailer, free of charge.

Used oil is a resource, not a waste, and should be recycled.
